El Paso County, Texas County Clerk offers new document recording service

El Paso’s County Clerk Waldo Alarcon continues a step ahead of the times by providing El Pasoans with easy e-filing and electronic recording of property records.

Effective immediately, the County Clerk’s Office will accept property records via e-filing. Currently property documents are recorded by taking them in person to the County Clerk’s Office, by sending them via regular mail or through the express mail system.

“By taking advantage of today’s technology, we are providing El Pasoans with a third option in recording their documents, one that is significantly easier and less expensive,” Alarcon said. “Records can be filed from the comfort of your home or office, at night, during the weekend or on holidays. There won’t be any more last minute runs to the Courthouse or overnight packages.”

Alarcon explained that the new system is made possible through his office’s partnership with iDocket, court case information system through the Internet.  The recording is done through ePR, an application for filing property records electronically. Through this system one or several documents can be filed in a single transaction, Alarcon said.

How does it work? Once a document is sent for recording and it has been sealed, signed and a number assigned to it by the County Clerk’s Office as required by state law, Alarcon said, the owner will be provided with a verification of acceptance. The document is then automatically placed on County’s database and passed on to microfilm, where it can be viewed and copied.

At this time only people approved by the County Clerk’s Office are allowed to file property records electronically. These include attorneys, banks, lending institutions, title companies and state agencies. To participate in the program, El Pasoans can request an application from www.iDocket.com or the County Clerk’s Office at www.epcounty.com

“We have had an excellent working relationship with iDocket for several years and are proud of their partnership with our office to make e-filing a reality for our customers, Alarcon said. He urged people who need more information on the new system to call his office at 915-546-2071.
